Rapid launches of smartphones in India – good or bad?

In the present era where it is not new to find latest launches of smartphones every now and then, which also has become a concern for the people. Almost everyday one can find recent launches of smartphones whenever one opens Amazon or Flipkart.

Why smartphones are launched in India rapidly? India, one of the most populated countries in the world is diverse and a big target for the leading cellphone manufacturing companies for making profit. Asian leading smartphone manufacturing companies first aim to expand their business in India than other Asian countries because of the population of India which is true for other foreign companies as well. So India is the place where with strategical marketing can lead to high profit. So maximum launches of smartphones are mostly in India.

What impact has it on the consumers of India? Since with frequent launches of smartphones, consumers get more available options to buy. They get many choices in the same price segment of smartphones to choose from. Higher the launches, higher the choices of consumer and higher is the market competition.

Conclusion and final verdict- Sometimes with many available choices of smartphones to choose from becomes a headache. From the current scenario it has well established that there is a huge number of available smartphones to choose from a particular price segment. So selection becomes complicated. Also smartphone manufacturing companies are launching the phones almost every now and then- 2-3 phones within a month. This is done to beat the other smartphone manufacturing company of the same price segment. This has lead to a market full of latest launches of smartphones from every international companies. However the impact is directly on the consumers. They get more options to buy along with increasing confusion of which one to buy.

According to me, smartphones should launch no doubt but after a sufficient amount of time so that the companies don’t have to advertise their latest product claiming it to be the best which was advertised earlier ‘the best’ before the launch of this smartphone.

Smart TV or non smart TV- which one to buy?

With increasing technology and advancements, the lives of people are getting more easier and convenient. With regular innovations, the Televisions are evolving too. From cathode ray tube(CRT) TVs to LED TVs, the journey was revolutionary.

Now coming to point whether a smart TV is required or not for everyone of this modern era. First let us know a bit about smart TVs. Smart TVs are basically TVs equipped with smart features. Various smart features include Screen Mirroring, web surfing, playing online content, downloading apps from the app store, browsing the internet, watching online content like Netflix, Hotstar and numerous more features.

Non smart TVs are normal LED TVs where the additional features are limited. Only Bluetooth and wifi are provided (not in every models).

Now,non smart TVs can be converted to smart TV simply by using Chromecast, Amazon Fire Stick and many other devices through the HDMI port in the TV. This lets to access the web and stream online content.

Pro’s of Smart TV:

  • Doesn’t require external device to access the online content.
  • In built features makes it go with the trend and browse content directly on the TV itself.
  • Accessable through mobile.
  • Many mobile tasks can be done in the TV like making a document with the advantage of a larger screen.
  • Most importantly ‘Netflix and chill’ with just one button.

Cons:

  • With RAM of almost 1gb and 8gb ROM(considering the mid range TVs) the apps start to lag with time.
  • Takes more loading time thereafter accessing the TV becomes a headache.
  • Greater chance of smart features to get damaged after few years.

Pro’s of non smart TVs:

  • Has larger sound output (20W) compared to smart TVs (<20W) considering the same price range.
  • Refresh rate is higher (60Hz) compared to smart TVs(~50Hz) considering the same price range.

Cons:

  • No additional features apart from Bluetooth and wifi connectivity.
  • No smart features.

Conclusion: If your viewing depends only on watching TV and programs then no need of spending extra on smart TVs. A non smart TV with good display and sound quality will be good. Further if you require to watch online content, you can do that as well by spending extra 2.5k and get a fire stick connected to the TV.

If your day to day life depends on online content like streaming Netflix, smart TVs are a better option because of larger screen and more sound. If you completely depend on internet and do not use cable or DTH, watch serials and programs through internet, then smart TVs will give you the best viewing experience. However with passage of time, the RAM management decreases which will lead to load the apps slowly and eventually you it will be a burden to open and load the TV.

What’s my opinion? If I had to buy a TV within the 20k categoy, I would choose a non smart TV with a good display (IPS panel) and larger sound quality and for the online streaming, I would purchase a Chromecast. This will result in not lagging of the TV and will solve both the purposes- watching serials and streaming online content with lag free experience.
